Seven songs, including the new “Michishirube,” on an outdoor stage against the blue sea

On May 16, 2026, sis (SIS/T) performed at the curry festival in Verny Park, Yokosuka, Kanagawa. Beginning at 1 p.m., the group mixed familiar songs with the recently unveiled “Michishirube,” lifting the festival atmosphere.

One of Yokosuka’s signature events, the festival combined curry stalls with a varied live program. Visitors arrived from the morning, and fans quickly took positions near the stage as sis’s appearance approached.

Alongside Japanese fans were visitors from Korea. As sis gradually extends its ties with Korean audiences alongside its Japanese activities, the scene reflected that development, with fans mingling naturally across nationalities.

Before the set, fans discussed recent activities and possible songs. Some wrote a favorite member’s name on the paper character hats distributed at the festival and wore them, creating a distinctive form of support.

Live performances from the morning onward

Several artists appeared on the main stage before sis.

Hikari Ichika performed at 10 a.m., offering a bright, approachable set with an unexpected incident: a wig worn during the performance fell offstage toward the sea, prompting laughter. The show then continued naturally.

At 11 a.m., a singer introduced as Soee took the stage. Introduced locally as a Korean artist, Soee performed songs built on Japanese lyrics while emphasizing Korean-style rhythm and emotional phrasing. Some listeners described the atmosphere as characteristic of a Korean singer active in Japan.

Around noon, organizers came onstage to introduce the festival and explain the program, providing a brief interval.

At 1 p.m., sis changes the atmosphere

KANO MIYU and the other members appeared at 1 p.m. The crowd’s mood shifted visibly, with cheers and calls rising from the front.

The members wore blue-toned outfits. Clear weather, the blue waterfront and strong midday sunlight combined to create an impression different from their indoor shows.

MIYU maintained bright expressions and assured performance, giving her a central presence. The openness and natural light prompted reactions that the set had a different atmosphere from a conventional concert venue.

The live set lasted a little over 30 minutes. Although the timetable allocated an hour, the performance itself occupied roughly half that slot.

Seven songs including “Michishirube”: familiar warmth and a changing direction

The group performed seven songs: “Saturday Night,” “I can’t stop the loneliness,” “Simple Love,” “DING DONG Kudasai,” “Smile For me,” “Ai no Battery” and “Michishirube.” The selection retained sis’s Showa-era retro feeling and Japanese pop foundations while incorporating its recent musical changes.

“Michishirube” drew particular attention. First unveiled at the May 2026 solo concert at Shinjuku ReNY in Tokyo, it returned here with an impression different from its indoor debut.

The song seemed to preserve sis’s warmth and familiarity while reflecting some of the more polished sounds emerging between Japanese idol music and K-pop. Bright and gentle overall, it used a repeating chorus melody and strong hook to stay in the ear.

At Verny Park, those qualities fitted naturally into the outdoor space. Where Shinjuku ReNY had emphasized immersion through lighting and sound, the sky and sea brought its warmth and freshness into clearer focus.

Audience concentration grew as the song progressed. Although not yet as familiar as the established favorites, its repeated chorus encouraged fans to follow the melody. Afterward, comments included “It felt completely different outdoors,” “It was much more emotional than I expected,” and “It suits sis.”

The established songs also received a reliable response. The introductions to “Ai no Battery” and “DING DONG Kudasai” immediately changed the audience’s mood. For repeat concertgoers, they seemed to have become emblematic songs, naturally prompting calls and cheers.

“Ai no Battery” particularly displayed the friendliness and bright energy of a sis show. It quickly narrowed the distance between members and audience and suited the event’s open atmosphere. General visitors also appeared to settle comfortably into the performance.

“DING DONG Kudasai” sharply expressed the group’s Showa-style retro character. Familiar Japanese pop sensibilities mixed with a modern idol-stage atmosphere, its cheerful pace quickly lifting the whole venue.

“Smile For me” and “Simple Love” kept the set flowing steadily. Instead of pushing forceful performance alone, the group maintained its gentle, approachable feeling and an easy exchange with listeners.

Most striking was that the selection did not merely line up signature songs. It clearly sought to connect sis’s established retro and Japanese pop character with more contemporary sounds and performance through its new material.

Recently, sis has shown an interest in expanding beyond a purely retro Japanese or Showa-era image. If “DIVER” centers on strong beats and K-pop-style performance, “Michishirube” appears to broaden the range through polished melodies and structure while retaining the group’s warmth.

Strengths that became clearer outdoors

The Verny Park appearance again showed that sis can lead an outdoor festival or community event as assuredly as an indoor concert.

Japanese idol shows often take place in live clubs or indoor venues, where lighting, sound and production build immersion. Outdoors, weather, ambient noise, the setting and passing visitors all become variables. Performance precision alone cannot always create the atmosphere.

Here, sis seemed particularly at ease with the openness. In a place where park and waterfront meet, the Yokosuka scenery behind the stage connected naturally with the group’s bright energy.

Around the stage, not only fans but ordinary curry-festival visitors stayed to watch. Rather than an experience concentrated on one fan base, it became a performance that passersby could naturally join.

The approachable, bright melodies suited a community festival or park event. With less emphasis on a heavy or forceful concept and more on connecting with listeners, sis could lift the mood comfortably within the outdoor setting’s freedom.

The group’s changing musical direction also emerged naturally: new material extended its contemporary sound and performance while preserving its familiar retro-pop image and welcoming live atmosphere.

The current sis is therefore moving beyond a simple “retro Japanese idol group” image, retaining its existing sensibility while bringing in a wider range of music and performance approaches.

Verny Park was one of the stages where that change appeared most unforced. Different from an indoor concert driven by lighting and choreography, its friendliness and bright energy spread through the open space, revealing another side of the group.

Merchandise and lingering conversations after the show

Sales followed the set, including CDs, calendars, instant-photo cases and other existing sis merchandise. Fans continued visiting the booth after the music ended.

As an outdoor community festival, it felt different from an indoor concert. Instead of leaving immediately, audiences slowly explored the stage area and merchandise stalls, continuing to talk about the show.

Fans discussed the selection, outfits and “Michishirube,” while some sorted photographs near the booth or exchanged impressions. In the relaxed outdoor atmosphere, the performance’s afterglow seemed to last longer.

With sea and park joined in one open setting, the mood did not break abruptly at the end of the set but continued within the festival. It felt less like watching a single show and leaving than an overlap of local celebration and live-music culture.

The appearance also seemed connected with sis’s recent direction. Where live clubs once predominated, community festivals, outdoor events and open stages have been broadening its contact with different audiences.

That was visible here: ordinary festival visitors naturally watched alongside fans, some stopping during the set and browsing merchandise afterward with interest.

The group’s reach, seen again on the Yokosuka waterfront

The Verny Park set again demonstrated that sis can hold the atmosphere of community festivals and outdoor events, rather than remaining exclusively an indoor live act.

MIYU’s bright, approachable presence and the group’s steady connection with the audience came through clearly. Instead of the intense immersion of an indoor venue, the outdoor setting allowed a more natural, relaxed way of closing the distance.

The dependable response to familiar songs was also memorable. “Ai no Battery” and “DING DONG Kudasai” energized the audience as soon as they began, while the recent “Michishirube” allowed established sensibilities and a newer musical direction to coexist naturally.

The concert offered an easygoing view of that change. If “DIVER” at Shinjuku ReNY pointed toward a new direction through forceful performance and K-pop-style sound, Verny Park suggested how those new approaches could sit alongside sis’s familiar character in a friendly, open atmosphere.

The stable flow was impressive despite outdoor variables such as weather, ambient noise and shifting attention. The group drew not only fans but general visitors into the performance naturally.

The appearance meant more than a routine community-event booking. It retained sis’s retro feeling and accessibility while incorporating an expanding musical range and changing performance style, offering another indication of where the group is heading.
