KANO MIYU’s “Romantic Ageru yo”: a promise after the adventure

The title “Romantic Ageru yo” suggests a sweet promise to a lover. Its original position was at the end of Dragon Ball, when viewers briefly set the day’s adventure aside. Its romantic invitation also holds room for imagining the next adventure.
MBN’s official clean-caption video of KANO MIYU carries a June 4, 2024 broadcast date. An anime ending becomes a performance in its own right on music television. For someone who remembers the series and someone meeting the song through Miyu, the same selection offers different starting points.

A song offered as the story ends
Toei Animation’s programme guide identifies Ushio Hashimoto’s recording as the Dragon Ball ending theme. Takemi Yoshida wrote the words and Takeshi Ike composed the music. For a viewer who heard it as part of the series, its opening may combine the end of a story with the wait for another episode.
A cover moves the song from the edge of the screen to the centre. We can remain with the entire piece instead of waiting for the next programme. Older scenes may return to mind, but a different singer stands before us. One song becomes both a route into memory and an introduction to a new voice.
An adventure that allows more than strength
The title’s romantic feeling extends beyond courtship. The original places courage alongside tears: the strength to venture out shares space with a promise to receive loneliness. Moving bravely ahead is only part of the emotional picture.
Those feelings give its position as an ending another significance. During an adventure we anticipate the next incident; afterwards there is time to consider a character’s heart. The song moves between showing strength and being allowed to reveal vulnerability. A cheerful title leaves that additional space open.
An old invitation with a new singer
Whether the cover is more modern than the original is a narrow question. The concrete changes already present are the singer and the listening context. A song used in Japanese animation becomes part of a performer’s repertoire on Korean television. Knowledge of the original series is no prerequisite for hearing its invitation.
A familiar song brings accumulated memories onto a cover stage. A singer can neither erase them nor claim to own them. She can offer the song again in a present voice. Remembering the original setting while meeting the current singer keeps both experiences available.
What remains afterwards resembles a small permission to begin again, rather than a declaration that every adventure is finished. It can arrive as a memory of animation or as one person’s song in the present. That is how an old ending theme finds room on another stage.
